Tom Gitaa has 10+ years experience in business management. In his last position as a buyer at Best Buy’s marketing department, the largest consumer electronics retailer in North America, he was responsible for a $200 million buying budget and was part of the team that oversaw the transition by Best Buy into the digital world of music and computing.
He is an active voice and subject matter expert in the local small business community and is a founding member of the African Chamber of Commerce in Minnesota.
He is also the founder of Mshale newspaper, the oldest and leading news source for the African immigrant community in the Midwest part of the United States.
In 2007, he was the lead person in charge of the first ever Africa Day exhibit at the Mall of America, which was designed to promote trade and investments in Africa at North America’s largest indoor mall.
Mr. Gitaa is the president of the board of directors for Books for Africa, the largest shipper of donated books to Africa. He also sits on the board of Minnesota International Center, the sixth largest world affairs council in the United States.
He is a graduate of Metropolitan State University with a B.A. in Business and a member of the American Marketing Association
